Southland Development Authority (SDA) Receives $100K Grant from Northern Illinois Community Initiatives (NICI) to Support Finance Arm Project
Harvey, IL [July 26, 2024] – The Southland Development Authority (SDA) is proud to announce that it has been awarded a $100,000 grant from the Northern Illinois Community Initiative (NICI) to bolster its Finance Arm project. The grant will enhance SDA’s efforts to provide essential financial resources and services to local businesses, fostering economic growth and stability in the Southland region.
The check presentation event took place on July 25, 2024, at a house rehabbed through the SDA’s Harvey Housing Initiative (HHI). This initiative addresses the issue of abandoned homes in Harvey by acquiring and rehabilitating distressed properties, providing affordable home ownership opportunities, and helping low and moderate-income families build generational wealth.
Key attendees included NICOR and NICI staff, local media, SDA staff and board members, elected officials, and community leaders. The event featured remarks from Bo Kemp, SDA’s CEO, and Tovah McCord, Executive Director of NICI, who formally announced the grant.
SDA CEO, Bo Kemp, expressed gratitude, stating, “We are immensely grateful to NICI for their generous support. This grant will significantly advance our mission to provide financial resources to the businesses that drive our community forward.”
“NICI prioritizes partnering with organizations that have an outsized impact in the communities we focus on. We believe SDA’s finance arm has the potential to make investments that will transform the southland for decades to come so we are thrilled to support their vision with a grant this year,” stated Tovah McCord, Executive Director of NICI.
The SDA Finance Arm project aims to empower local businesses by offering financial guidance, resources, and support, thereby strengthening the economic fabric of the Southland community.
