The Southland Has Career Opportunities You May Not Know Exist
The Southland Development Authority’s (SDA) third annual Hire Southland Career Discovery and Workforce Development Day is returning to South Suburban College on August 29. And, as always, it will bring job seekers, employers and workforce resources together under one roof.
Citizen Grit recently featured the upcoming event and spoke with SDA Vice President of Programs and Client Services Manny Davila about the challenges facing today’s job seekers. They also touched on the career opportunities available across the Southland. As well as what employers are looking for in their next generation of workers.
Davila mentioned opportunities in the region’s manufacturing sector, including welding, CNC machining and electrical trades, while emphasizing that employers aren’t necessarily looking for candidates who already know everything.
“They are looking at an individual they can invest time and resources to grow into the next level of the organization,” Davila told Citizen Grit.
Hire Southland is free and will take place August 29 at South Suburban College, 15800 State St. in South Holland, beginning with a networking breakfast at 8:30 a.m., followed by a panel discussion at 9 a.m. and a business exhibitor and resource fair at 10:30 a.m.
