South Suburban Land Bank Featured for Park Forest Pilot Rehab Project

The South Suburban Land Bank was recently featured in the Daily Southtown for its groundbreaking pilot project: fully rehabbing a vacant two-story house in Park Forest for the first time in our 13-year history.

Located at 345 Miami Street, the home received a $130,000 transformation—complete with updated plumbing, fixtures, new flooring, and a fresh coat of paint throughout. More than a single home renovation, this project represents the promise of community renewal and an expanded tax base.

As Executive Director Joe van Dyk explains, “Doing it this way gives us more control over the outcome—and it’s affordable.”
